Why Progress Before Performance

Progress Before Performance is a podcast focused on the idea that sustainable progress in exercise is more important than chasing performance outcomes.

The mission is to make exercise feel accessible, not intimidating, by turning exercise science into practical, evidence-based guidance that helps people and fitness professionals manage stress, anxiety, and depression, and support better mental and physical health.

About the Coach

I started coaching in 2014, but fitness has been part of my life long before that. From playing sports growing up to maintaining physical standards in the military, movement has always been a constant. Over time, that relationship with fitness evolved from something I did into something I wanted to share.

I coach because I have a strong desire to help people work through the things they often find most difficult: getting started, staying consistent, and trusting the process. Coaching also keeps me accountable. It forces me to think critically, stay curious, and continue learning rather than defaulting to what’s familiar.

When it comes to exercise, I’m a fan of all of it. Bodybuilding, powerlifting, Olympic weightlifting, yoga, running, recreational sports, or simply walking—there isn’t one “right” way to train. There isn’t a program that’s inherently better than another. What matters is what you enjoy and what you’ll continue to do.

That belief is at the core of how I coach. My goal isn’t to push people into a system; it’s to help them find what inspires them, what feels sustainable, and what supports their sense of purpose. Progress looks different for everyone, and that’s exactly how it should be.
